The "Rasende Roland"

Since the start, more than 100 years ago the steam railway on Rügen, has become a real master piece of historic technical achievement. Introducing passengers to Germany's biggest and most beautiful island, the narrow-gauge line, which is 24.1 km long and 750 mm wide, is the last remaining section of the previous 97.3 km long network. The "Racing Roland" steam train is an unmistakable part of Rügen and probably a highlight for most tourists to the Island. The line connects all the best-known coastal resorts and offers special rates for families and groups, accommodation for bicycles and training courses for honorary engine drivers.
