In addition to boasting an excellent modern rail network, Germany has several stretches of special scenic and working narrow-gauge rail lines, particularly in Saxony, the Harz mountain area, Black Forest and the coast of Mecklenburg-Lower Pomerania. Here some steam engine railway lines are still in active service for commuters, locals and tourists alike.
There are also a number of interesting rail museums, including those in Nördlingen, Darmstadt and Neuenmarkt in Upper Franconia.
