Steam Railways in Bavaria

Did you know that Germany'sï¿½first everï¿½steam locomotive, theï¿½Adler,ï¿½run in 1835 between the two Bavarianï¿½towns ofï¿½Nuremberg and Fuerth and that the driver earned twice as much as the company's director? Today a turbulent rail history can still be admired in Bavaria.

Bavarian Railway Museum Nï¿½rdlingen

Nï¿½rdlingen and Dinkelsbï¿½hl are two impressive old towns both with original and preserved medieval city walls. You can commute between the two towns, gently meandering through beautiful scenic countryside, far away from any large towns. A museum rail service also operates between Nï¿½rdlingen and Gunzenhausen, otherwise known as "The Royal King Ludwig South North Line". Get on the train and experience a nostalgic way of life.

German Steam Locomotive Museum

From railway heaven to beer paradise. The museum train is a special attraction of the German Steam Locomotive Museum and operates a service from Neuenmarkt to the Bavarian Brewery Museum in Kulmbach. The track on which the train operates looks back to 150 years of moving history. Shortly behind Neuenmarkt is where the famous steep track, the "Schiefe Ebene" (Sloping Plain), begins. While riding the museum train passengers will experience the immense power the locomotive needs in order to climb the steep track.
