Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Martin Luther lived here for three years as a school boy and later spent 300 days in the Wartburg Castle. The sight of the Wartburg inspired Richard Wagner to write his opera �Tannh�user�. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe often visited Eisenach. �The area is overwhelming� he wrote Charlotte von Stein in 1777.
