Lüneburger Heath

The heather-carpeted Lüneburger Heide stretches between the Elbe and Aller rivers and is a part of the "Niedersächsische Geest", a varied landscape with wetlands and sandy settlement areas.
Careful preservation efforts have made the Heide the largest heath in Europe, stretching across 200km.  Cars are largely prohibited in the region, so you'll frequently see horse-drawn carriages and clusters of cyclists criss-crossing the Heide.
