Surrounded by vineyard slopes and bisected by the Main River, Würzburg is a famous university town. It is famous for its Bocksbeutel (specially formed wine bottle). In 1895 Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays here and was awarded the first Nobel Prize. The UNESCO declared the princely Episcopal palace with its many frescoes a world heritage site.
