München - Munich

Perhaps the only place in the world where Lederhosen and Gucci peacefully coexist, the city of Munich is both the sleek, modern capital of the state of Bavaria and a bastion of regional tradition. Birthplace of the beer garden, Munich's traditional merriment is in sharp contrast with the fragmented avant-garde attitude of Berlin, its long-time alter ego to the north. World-class museums, attractive parks and baroque architecture, a rambunctious arts scene and an urbane population conspire to create a city of astonishing vitality.

Main Attractions:

English Garden: Famous 900-acre park with pathways, ponds, beer gardens etc

Olympic Stadium: Created for the 1972 summer Olympics, now host to events, concerts, festivals, football etc

Frauenkirche: Church of Our Lady, one of Munich's most famous landmarks

Nymphenburg: Baroque Palace and Gardens - one of Munich's top attractions

Art Galleries: Neue Pinokothek, Haus der Kunst, Pinokothek der Moderne

Museums: Deutsches Museum, BMW Museum

Bavarian Filmtour: Learn where 150 hours of cinema and TV are produced

Marienplatz: Munich's focal point, neo-Gothic town hall, with glockenspiel
