Germany's Nature & National Parks

Germany has a wealth of unspoilt natural landscapes. Its flora and fauna are wonderfully diverse and often unique - perfect for experiencing nature at its best.

Exploring unspoilt Germany - on foot, by bike or by boat - is not only a great way to relax and unwind but also a fabulous opportunity to discover nature.

Germany's nature reserves, biosphere reserves and national parks are remarkable natural landscapes with rich cultural traditions. Some are the only surviving example of their kind in the world.

Biosphere reserves - for the benefit of man and nature

Biosphere reserves are extensive, representative areas of precious natural and man-made landscapes of international importance. Their primary use is for research into the relationship between man and the environment. Exemplary models of sustainable forms of land use are developed and applied in biosphere reserves in collaboration with the people who live and work in these areas that have evolved in their particular way over time. Germany has 16 biosphere reserves where this interaction between man and nature can be observed.
