Muskauer Park

Just north of Görlitz, the River Neisse - which straddles the German-Polish border - meanders through one of the finest country parks in central Europe. It was designed by Hermann Fürst von Pückler-Muskau (1785-1871), a prince, travel writer and landscape gardener of exceptional importance. Covering an area of around 830 hectares, Muskauer Park is made up of a number smaller parks. These have different features depending on which side of the border they lie in. The castle, spa and hillside parks are found on the German side, the lower park, the arboretum and the Bronowickie fields on the Polish. Muskauer Park is characterised by its spacious layout, broad vistas, difference styles of landscape architecture and artificial watercourses. On a stroll through the park, visitors experience a constantly alternating, three-dimensional scene that has been hewn out of the natural landscape. The park was inscribed in the World Heritage list as a joint Polish-German site.
