Still have Christmas presents to buy for friends and family? Why not combine a Christmas market visit with some shopping at Germany's larger stores? Their Christmas displays are a sight to behold and there are plenty of attractive offers. Christmas shopping in Germany's major cities such as Berlin, Hamburg or Munich is an exciting experience. Main shopping streets will be especially festive, with fabulous Christmas decorations and illuminations.

As for stores and where to shop, Berlin has the KaDeWe and Galeries Lafayette; in Hamburg head for Jungfernstieg, in Munich for Leopoldstrasse. Oberhausen is home to Centro, Germany's biggest shopping complex. All have enormous character and Christmas atmosphere and you will be spoilt for choice. Christmas specialities, including the traditional Christmas goose, duck, carp and game, feature prominently on Germany's restaurant menus at this time of year. Take a break from your Christmas shopping and enjoy the food and the festive atmosphere. Speaking of shopping. if it's toys you're looking for, Nuremberg is a great place to go. Seiffen in the Erzgebirge mountains is also highly recommended for toy fans. It is a small town with an amazing choice of beautiful handmade toys.
