Now in its 16th year and hosted � besides the Philharmonie � for the first time in the Schiller Theater this year, the Staatsoper Berlin�s annual FESTTAGE has attracted visitors from all over the world since its beginnings in 1996. Just as in past years, the resident and guest artists will be providing audiences with a first-class opera and concert program around the Easter holidays.
The main focus this year will rest on two premieres to be performed on two consecutive days: Alban Berg�s WOZZECK and Richard Wagner�s WALK�RE, produced by Andrea Breth and Guy Cassiers and with a stellar cast made up of Nadja Michael, Roman Trekel, Ir�ne Theorin, Anja Kampe, Simon O�Neill and Ren� Pape.
Daniel Barenboim, who has been the formative catalyst in shaping the FESTTAGE since its inception, will be conducting both of these larger-than-life stage works as well as a symphony concert with Gidon Kremer and the Staatskapelle Berlin. The chamber concert to be given by Lang Lang during this time also promise to be a musical event of the highest caliber.
