Potsdam
Film Museum, Potsdam - film

Germany's oldest film museum is located in the Marstall (royal stables), a beautiful baroque building that is part of the former Potsdam Palace. A permanent exhibition about the history of the Babelsberg film studios, temporary exhibitions and small special presentations in the foyer offer an insight into the world of film for visitors of all ages.

Lights, camera, action
In the 20th century, the name Babelsberg became a trademark for film and media productions. The Potsdam Film Museum presents the history of film and of the Babelsberg Film Studios in the regional capital's oldest building, where film and television exhibitions have been attracting visitors since 1981. Various aspects of international film and media history are illustrated with film programmes and fascinating temporary exhibitions. A movie theatre shows highlights of international cinematic art and screens silent films accompanied by a "Welte" cinema organ dating back to 1929. At the heart of the museum, however, is the history of the artists and films of the Babelsberg Film Studios, at one time the largest film production company in Europe.
