Medieval town on the Danube

Regensburg is home to two thousand years of living history. Some of Europe's most important architectural and cultural monuments, plus fascinating museums and art collections make this an attractive place to spend some time. Genuine Bavarian hospitality adds a special note to the vibrant mix of art and culture. Situated on the banks of the Danube, Regensburg is the ideal base for boat trips along the river.

Places of interest

The medieval townscape of the former free imperial city is characterised by red roofs, churches, towers, turrets and townhouses from the 12th to 14th centuries. Built in stone, they were a symbol of the wealth of what was then the richest town in southern Germany.

Museums

Regensburg Thurn and Taxis Palace, copyright Regensburg Tourist Information
The History Museum in the former Minorite monastery houses art and cultural history collections from the Stone Age to the 19th century, as well as extensive exhibitions on the Romans and the Middle Ages. The Thurn and Taxis Museum is also well worth a visit.
