London, 31 March 2009 - Bavaria is not only a haven for a wide range of outdoor activities including cycling, hiking, climbing, skiing, golfing or kayaking, it also provides its visitors with competitive holiday offers. To make your holiday money stretch further, the Alpine destinations of Oberstaufen and Oberstdorf, for example, feature special visitor cards. Both located in the southern Bavarian Allgäu region, they offer affordable breaks plus some spectacular mountain scenery for free.
Golfing for free in Oberstaufen
Oberstaufen has put together the "Oberstaufen Plus Golf" card enabling keen golfers who are staying in one of the 18 partner hotels of this initiative to use three local golf courses with 60 holes altogether without paying any green fees. One of the courses includes Germany's highest tee-off at 1.011 metres. Visitors can also try numerous other courses in the area at a reduced green fee of 30 percent.
The "Oberstaufen Plus Golf" card complements the "Oberstaufen Plus" car, a special initiative of the tourism industry in Oberstaufen, leaving visitors with more pocket money left to spend during their holidays. More than 300 accommodation providers offer their guests free travel on all mountain cable cars, guest buses, free entry to museums and other attractions such as the summer toboggan run and an adventure pool.
With the "Oberstaufen Plus Golf" card, visitors on a one-week golfing holiday can save about EUR 300, and seven nights for two people in a three-star-superior hotel including breakfast and free spa usage start at EUR 850.
Hiking and more in Oberstdorf
Oberstdorf, Germany's most southern tourism community and a climatic spa, has put together a "hiking without limits" programme. Visitors staying for three nights or more can use the region's mountain cable cars for free and explore 200 km of hiking trails. Not to be missed is the famous vista point on the Nebelhorn mountain offering a panoramic view of 400 Alpine peaks.
Hikers can complement their tours by experiencing typical Alpine traditions such as cheese making in a an Alpine dairy or enjoy cultural offers such as the "Oberstdorf music summer" from 30 July to 20 August 2009.
Three nights for two people in a four star hotel start at EUR 257 or in a self-catering apartment for two people at EUR 184 (booking period form 8 May to 1 November).
