Along with our 1982 VW camper van

VW Camper Vans
Two years ago my husband and I along with our 1982 VW camper van set off from England to Berlin. We had a fantastic time parking by palaces, being woken in Hannover by a local lady bringing us breadbuns and meeting strangers who practised their English on us and showed us the local sights...

20 Years of Family Cycling & Youth Hostelling in Germany

Seebach / Black Forest
My last visit to Germany was this Easter with my eldest daughter Joanne, now 25. We stayed in Seebach in a pension and enjoyed walking in the beautiful Achertal where 60,000 fruit trees had just come into blossom, the weather was perfect and the scenery was amazing.

Tips for Active Travellers

cyclists resting in the grass
The most memorable holiday I had in Germany was in Garmisch Partenkirchen. The B & B was so friendly as were the people.

We stayed for 4 days and travelled down by train from Munich...

Baden Baden or a fairy Tale

Baden-Baden: spa building, evening
I went to Baden Baden just before Christmas to celebrate my 50th  birthday.  I will never forget the magical sight as we approached the hotel in the town centre late in the evening.  I felt like we were  arriving into the midst of a fairy tale.

Joy of Driving in Germany

Moselle Bow near Bremm with ''MS-Europa''

A few years ago we discovered the delights of touring Germany with car and caravan.

During this time we have explored "Western" Germany from Cologne to Bodensee and this is a brief account of last years holiday.

Ingolstadt ..Gem of a Town

Ramsau near Berchtesgaden/Upper Bavaria
I and two family members, decided we would like to go to Ingolstadt Bavaria Germany. It does help if you are going to Ingolstadt to know some German, as although it is a lovely place it is not really geared towards tourism and  not a lot of locals can speak English. If you know enough to get by you should be all right.

Fabulous interesting Berlin

Berlin: Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
What a fabulous time we had;  Berlin is such a vibrant interesting city and we had the most wonderful time and visited many museums and places of interest.

A visit to Potsdam was one of the highlight of our visit - quite amazing to see all the palaces contained in one large area of parkland .

My Last Trip to Germany

Munich: towers of the city in the sunset
My last trip was some 30 years ago when I was thirteen, I travelled  alone to visit my step uncle who was adopted by my grandparents when he crash  landed in their back garden during the war.

The memories I have of Germany are still vivid in my memory, it was when i found love, tasted  freedom  and  learnt a new language. I now wish to return with my children to show them the wonderful sights and  share the memories with them and perhaps see my other family.

Memories of a School Trip to Germany

Laubach near Giessen: Organ grinders at the barrel organ festival in the old quarter
In 1975 I was a school student and played flute in my school wind band. During Easter that year we undertook a concert tour to Germany and Austria. It was the most memorable school trip ever! We first of all went to our partnerstadt of Moenchengladbach and stayed with a German family.

Charm of Rural Germany

Neustadt/Weinstraße: Hintergasse
Our advice to those who intend to travel by car through Germany would be to look for accommodation in country areas close to the town that you wish to visit and you will be rewarded by wonderful hospitality and notable value for money.

Berlin is the best place in the World

Brandenburg Gate, evening
My last trip to Germany was Berlin in September 08 and it is the best place in the world!!  I went for 7 days and got a 7 day pass for the transport system - you got unlimited use of the buses, trams and S & U Bahns and they were brilliant for getting around Berlin easily!

Cologne & Youth Hostels made easy

Cologne Cathedral
A New Zealand friend,  making a journey to Europe, suggested we met up in either Switzerland, Italy, France or Germany this October.

Knowing a little of Germany, thanks to my daughter who lived in Hamburg for a year and a relative near to Cologne, Cologne was agreed on as a suitable meeting place.

Taking my Mercedes to its homeland

Bavarian Alps
Myself and my wife have been to Germany twice before, driving our own car and yes it is a Mercedes! So we took it to visit its homeland. We have had brochures and leaflets from many of your countries regions from Bavaria to Mecklenburg and have never been disappointed by the very good content of them all.

Coach holiday to the Black Forest

We took a coach holiday to the black forest area of Germany last December, we stayed in Triberg and it was like staying in a winter wonderland.  The Christmas markets were wonderful, the mountains and forest where lovely, the snow looked beautiful.  We did not want to come home, the mulled wine was beautiful, the people were friendly and where the nicest people we have ever met and everything about the place was wonderful, it felt it like coming home, so much so we have booked a weeks holiday this year in December, going to Ingolstadt.

We can't wait to come back to where our hearts belong.

Pleasures of a gondola

Lake Woerlitz
I was in Germany at Worlitz earlier this month and had a great time. We visited the gardens and enjoyed our afternoon tea on the lake from the pleasure of the gondola, so tranquil.

We also visited Berlin, Colditz, Leipzig and Lutherstadt Wittenburg, the highlight of this day was seeing Hundertwasser's Schule. We stayed at the Hotel Worlitzer hof which was a great hotel and made our stay most enjoyable. Our Tour Company was AT Travel.

I left my heart in the Schwarzwald

Black Forest Traditional Costume
I had a wonderful trip recently to Germany, stopping in Frankfurt, Munich and Schwarzwald.......I left my heart in the Schwarzwald. Met a wonderful guy and hoping to go back soon to see all the other wonderful things there.

In Frankfurt, we attended a labour day protest with great beer and food, very friendly people throughout the trip. Driving through this very beautiful and scenic country, can't wait to go back!

I waited 11 years for this

Bayreuth Festspielhaus
My husband and I waited 11 (eleven!!!) years for tickets for  Wagner Festival in Bayreuth. The first time we waited 9 years. We live in Scotland and travel about three times a year to Germany for opera.

Bayreuth has no airport so we had to take a taxi from  Nuremberg to Bayreuth - well worth the 11 year wait.

Like all German cities Bayreuth is a very clean, interesting place. An experience in a life time to be lucky enough to get tickets for the Festival.
