German Beaches and Seaside Resorts

Ships in Hiddensee
Let’s be honest, Germany’s amazing coastline is still pretty much untouched by most British and Irish holiday makers. Why travel to Germany when there are some great coastlines on your doorstep or guaranteed sunshine in Spain?  Viva la difference is the key reason.

Nature: Germany’s coastline can offer you hundreds of miles of fine white sandy beaches mixed with grassy dykes, large mudflats, marshes and huge designated nature reserves.

History: For hundreds of years the historic Hanseatic trading towns of Northern Germany have always been the backbone of Europe’s economy, bringing with them lots of interesting stories, culture and history.

Ahlbeck/Usedom seaside health resort: At Ahlbeck pier, the oldest pier in Germany (1898), evening
Architecture: Seaside resorts in Germany are historic or very modern, regardless if old or new; most buildings are a showcase of spectacular low rise architecture. Anyone travelling from the west to the east will notice a steady change in architecture, making each town more interesting. The quality of life here is very high; buildings, towns and the environment are always lovingly cared for to the highest standards.

Environment: For modern Germany the environment has always been taken very seriously, here you can expect to find some of the world’s finest sea air, not to mention excellent water quality and cleanliness all around. In fact many of the German Islands are completely traffic free, offering the ultimate peaceful retreat.

Selection of German seafood favourites
Food and Drink: Not so much fish and chips but more seafood salads, smoked fish grills, marinated herring and sole with bacon and fried potatoes, complimented with a few glasses of the finest German wines and beer.

Value for Money: Self-Catering will cost around £40 per night for a family of five, the average price of a 3* hotel per person is £30. A meal in a quality restaurant will cost £10 (x-rate Apr 2008); seaside living costs here are some of the lowest in Europe.

Cycling: The coastlines of Germany are a true magnet and haven for cyclists; there are literally thousands of dedicated and high quality traffic free cycle lanes to explore.

Usedom/Baltic Sea: wicker beach chairs in the seaside resort of Bansin
Attractions: Original steam railways, historic castles, red brick and timber framed towns, horse and carriage mudflat walks, wicker beach chairs plus state of the art indoor swimming and health spa facilities.

Weather: We can’t guarantee you the weather but statistically speaking the temperature and the amount of sunshine during the summer is pretty impressive, especially the further east you go. July is the best month with an average temperature of 30 Deg C and only eight days of rain. In case it should rain you will be well protected against the elements with one of Germany’s unique wicker beach chairs.
