Saxony: the new discovery for winter sports

chair-lift
Along the southern border of Saxony, with the Czech Republic, two winter sports areas can be found over a length of 300 kilometres. They belong to  Germany’s most beautiful winter sports areas  and are a lot less massive than the usual winter  sports destinations.

The winter sports areas at a height of approximately 700 to 1200 metres are provided with a variety of ski pistes and trails for cross-country skiing. Well-known towns are Oberwiesenthal – Germany’s highest city – Altenberg, Schöneck, Eibenstock and Klingenthal. The higher pistes, such as the Fichtelberg are assured of snow, if  necessary by adding another layer with snow machines.

Cross-country skiing trails of 220 kilometres
Right across the Vogtland and Ore Mountains you will find the KAMMtour; an astonishing route for cross-country skiing of 220 kilometres. The route is divided into 12 parts, each one of which is manageable in one day. It belongs to one of the most snow-guaranteed cross-country routes of Germany and leads you through the most beautiful scenery and along many pittoresque historical mountain towns.

Oberwiesenthal – Ore Mountains

It is about time for a couple of days of relaxing. Relax and recover. It is time for the highest city of Germany: the spa town of Oberwiesenthal at the Fichtel mountains (1,214 metres high). Inhale the fresh air! Hiking, skiing, mountain biking, snowboarding, playing tennis, skating, playing skittles, bowling, curling, swimming, sauna, relaxing or just having fun…

Inhabitant Jens Weissflog, winner of Olympic gold medalist in ski jumping, has made Oberwiesenthal known worldwide. The spa resort of Oberwiesenthal is known as the sports centre where huge (inter)national sports events are taking place.
