At sufficient snowfall, the Thuringer Forest (Thüringer Wald in German), located in the middle of Germany and often mentioned as Germany’s “green belt”, is a great winter sports area for cross-country skiers and hikers. With a few red and blue pistes, the area is also extremely attractive for the less experienced skiers. The most well-known village in the Thuringer Forest is Oberhof, situated at a height of 730 metres.
