The little town of Mittenwald, famous for its market square, is located in a beautiful skiing area about 100 kilometres south of Munich between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Austria. At a height of 912 metres, Mittenwald is the highest open-air spa of the Bavarian Alps. Surrounded by the Karwendel and the Wetterstein, Mittenwald is a village in the middle of a magnificent scenery of mountains and lakes. Daredevils will like the Dammkar-tunnel on the eastern Karwendelspitze. This is one of Germany’s most challinging skiing slopes with hills steeper than 40%. The Hoher Kranzberg with 15 km of pistes offers plenty of fun for skiers/snowboarders with less practice. Cross-country skiers can enjoy the routes through the valley of Mittenwald. From the valley, you can cross the border to Seefeld to find another connecting route.
