Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a superb destination and in the middle of Germany’s best skiing area, right next to the foothills of Germany’s best known and highest mountain. The Zugspitze has an elevation of 2,964 metres or 9720 feet which makes it a sure place to guarentee snow, at least during the winter months.
The village itself has an abundance of excellent services including, restaurants, cosy pubs, plenty of spas, great entertainment, culture (theatres, concerts, cinemas, casino). Rafting, mountain biking, gliding, playing tennis or golf are also part of the many possibilities that Garmisch-Partenkirchen has to offer.
With many international events taking place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the next FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2011 being planned the town already enjoys a great international reputation.
You would think a holiday to such a location would not come cheap but think again, even for those on a low budget there is plenty of accommodation to chose from.
With hundreds of trails and miles of downhill slopes the area is a heaven for all sorts of winter sports enthusiasts. The plateau of the Zugspitze consists of a mere 20 kilometres of excellent skiing trails and a fun park for snowboarders. The plateau is a glaciated area, assured of snow even as late as May, when skiing or snowboarding is almost always still possible! For cross-country skiers there are a further 40 kilometres of beautiful scenic trails to explore.
