Suggested excursions

Sporty types will find no end of activities to enjoy throughout the region whether in the summer or winter months. The wide range of local attractions means there's no time to get bored. The Route of Industrial Heritage passes through the Ruhr region and offers all kinds of entertainment ranging from art exhibitions at a former gasometer, dancing at the colliery wash house, football and other sports. Fort Fun is an amusement park for explorers and conquerors, young and old alike. The Warstein brewery in the forest park provides insights into the history of brewing.

Route of Industrial Heritage
The Ruhr region is the largest industrial area in both Germany and Europe. An extensive network of roads, railway lines and waterways criss-crosses the region, which consists of a sprawling mass of residential and industrial areas with no clear division between the two. Today there is a wide range of recreational facilities on offer at the many reservoirs and visitor parks. However, many tourists are also attracted to the region by its museums, many places of technical interest and industrial sites that are still in operation. Steel barons such as Krupp and Thyssen built their industrial empires here.

Fort Fun amusement park
More than 40 breathtaking rides and a fantastic location in the charming Sauerland countryside make a trip to Fort Fun amusement park a popular day out for the whole family. The "White Eagle" is a real white-knuckle ride that takes you to unbelievable heights. The "Trapper Slider" is a high-speed toboggan run well over a kilometre in length. Or why not ride the "Wirbelwind", an exhilarating loop-the-loop rollercoaster! In the water paradise you can whizz along the Rio Grande in unsinkable circular rafts or get a soaking on the "Wild River" log flume. Experience the pioneer spirit and atmosphere of the Wild West with log cabins and rodeos.

Warstein brewery
The Warstein brewery - one of the most state-of-the-art installations of its kind in Europe - was always intended to be a visitor brewery. The brewers are keen for visitors to watch them at work and gain an insight into the brewing process. The beer is brewed according to the German Beer Purity Law of 1516, and much of the process has remained unchanged for centuries. And what would a visit to the Warstein brewery be without a good old-fashioned beer tasting?
