Bad Neuenahr
The elixir of life

Bad Neuenahr is famous around the world for its natural mineral water. It has three "alkaline thermal" springs, which are found in few other places in Europe. This highly carbonated water is particularly suitable for drinking or bathing in. Bad Neuenahr's medicinal springs have three main characteristic features: a natural temperature of between 34 and 41°C; the water from the springs is naturally acidic and contains high levels of sodium, magnesium and hydrogen carbonate; and there is a particularly high level of natural carbonic acid, in both bonded and dissociated form. The water can help alleviate the following medical conditions: cardiovascular disease, musculo-skeletal illnesses, rheumatic diseases, diseases of the digestive system, metabolic disorders, kidney and urinary tract disease and general weakness and can also help in convalescence.

Medical facilities

For almost 150 years, the spa resort of Bad Neuenahr has specialised in the treatment of internal complaints and orthopaedics. Over the decades, a number of excellent clinics and sanatoriums have been established here, around the therapeutic mineral springs, which also produce the famous Apollinaris mineral water. Natural mud treatments from Bad Neuenahr were introduced in 1908, and went on to become extremely popular around the world. Today, the spa resort only offers natural "fango" mud treatments, which have three distinct therapeutic effects.
