Art & culture

Completed in May 1913, the Regent's building is widely regarded as the most magnificent edifice in Kissingen's spa district. The dignitaries who have sat beneath the brocade canopy in the Great Hall include Crown Princess Cecilia von Hohenzollern, Queen Luise of Sweden, and King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit of Thailand. Today the Great Hall is an art and science forum, as well as a prestigious venue for concerts by famous orchestras, conferences and balls.
An open-air venue situated in the heart of the monumental Regent's building and surrounded by sumptuous halls, the Schmuckhof has been described as a "design masterpiece". This delightful garden is far removed from the noise and stress of everyday life. Reminiscent of the Italian gardens of the baroque and Renaissance periods, the courtyard is adorned with sculptures from Roman and Greek mythology.
Bad Kissingen's theatre was built under Prince Regent Luitpold. He commissioned Professor Max Littmann to create a building divided into three parts, with a pavilion foyer, an auditorium and a high stage. The auditorium was modelled on a royal tiered theatre. A theatre consisting only of stalls, as was typical at that time, was considered too common for a royal spa resort. The theatre with its "Crane Migration" ceiling fresco and art nouveau embellishments on the walls has been retained virtually in its original condition from when it opened in 1905.
