Golfing in Germany

As you’d expect from a country that has produced champions of the ilk of Bernhard Langer, Germany prides itself on having some of the most attractive golf courses in Europe.

The course at Gut Kaden, 30 miles north of Hamburg, and Club Zur Vahr course in Bremen, former home of the German Open in a heavily forested setting spread over 200 acres, are two of the most famous.

Other golfing treats are to be had at the Klostermannshof course in Niederkassel in the heart of the Rhineland, and the striking Hohen Wieschendorf, which juts out into the Baltic Sea on a peninsula between Lübeck and Wismar. Munich is also a very popular golfing destination with about 45 golf courses in and around the city to choose from.

But golfing holidays in Germany are not just for the pros. There are literally hundreds of courses designed to cater for golfers of all abilities and needs. Some may simply want a round or two with friends as part of a wider touring holiday; others may want to take a fully-fledged course, either individually or as part of a golf school, aimed at improving their handicap.  Exploring Germany’s golf courses is a good way of seeing more of the country and its natural beauty – while getting lots of fresh air and exercise at the same time.
