Leipzig Central Stadium

The “old” Zentralstadion, which opened in 1956, after a 15-month construction phase, was once the largest stadium in Germany with a capacity of 100,000. Building of the new Zentralstadion (capacity of 45,000) started in Nov 2000 and the first football match took place in March 2004.

Reunification has meant great advances in Leipzig and visitors will find some lovely old Renaissance and Baroque buildings, historical trading centres and malls that are now fully restored and modernised, providing a stylish paradise for shoppers and sightseers. The city is a must for fans of classical music, it is the birthplace of Richard Wagner and the city is also famous for the St Thomas' Church, where Bach was cantor for the last 27 years of his life, and where he composed so many of his great works.

Leipzig Historic Tram
The stadium is in the west of the city within walking distance of Leipzig’s city centre. 

From the main station, take the tram (no. 3, 7, 8 or 15) westbound to ‘Sport Forum’.
