Kaiserslautern - Fritz Walter Stadium

View of Stadium from Kaiserslautern's city centre
Scheduled Work: Extension
Capacity: 48,500 Seats
Investment: €48.3m

The Fritz-Walter-Stadion first opened its doors in 1920. Home to the first division club FC Kaiserslautern, the ground takes its name from the former German 1954 FIFA World Cup captain.

The stadium is located in the heart of the city on a 40 metre high sandstone hill, locally known as the Betzenberg Mountain.

The ground has a distinctly fresh feel thanks to a series of modernization projects and a recently built extension.

Kaiserslautern - Match Tickets

Mainz against 1 FC Kaiserslautern
A club with a long history in the Bundesliga and the only club ever to have managed to win the league straight after having being promoted from the 2. league, which at the time in 1998, led to only a very few big pay-outs at the bookies.

Kaiserslautern now plays in the 2.league, but with good prospect of being promoted back in to the Bundesliga.

Kaiserslautern - City Highlights

Art museum Kaiserslautern
The city (pop. 100,000) owes its name to Emperor Barbarossa.  The emperor or ‘Kaiser’ was taken by the beauty of the countryside and built himself a palace in Lautern (hence Kaisers’ Lautern).  Today Kaiserslautern is a modern city with a lively student scene and attractive shops.  It’s a good base for walking holidays in the Pfalz region.
