The Rhein Energie Stadion is a reconstruction of the former ‘Müngersdorfer Stadion’, which, when completed in 1975 was the only completely covered stadium in Germany.
Work started on the new stadium in the summer of 2001 and was compled at the end of 2004.
Today's ground is home to the 1st Bundesliga team FC Köln.
During the 2006 World Cup, England and Sweden drew 2-2 in Cologne, as a result both teams made it through to the Round of 16.
