The Baltic
World cultural heritage towns Lübeck, Wismar and Stralsund – a heritage that you can be part of
Brick Gothic architecture is typical of the Baltic region. In the Hanseatic town of Lübeck, visitors come across this style of architecture mainly in the old quarter, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. The town where Thomas Mann's Buddenbrooks was set is a magnificent sight, with proud Patrician town houses alongside medieval churches and buildings. The great Hanseatic tradition also lives on in the engaging town of Wismar, with its restored Patrician town houses, romantic old harbour and brick Gothic cultural monuments at every turn. Stralsund was also declared a world cultural heritage site because of its brick architecture. Known as the "Venice of the north", Stralsund is almost totally surrounded by water.
