Bavaria's Zugspitze - Germany's highest mountain

The Zugspitze (2,962 metres) is Germany’s highest mountain.
In the Ammergau Alps - which lie between Linderhof Palace, Ettal Abbey and the two spa resorts, Bad Bayersoien and Bad Kohlgrub - you will be walking in the footsteps of King Ludwig of Bavaria. The area around Lake Staffelsee is known as the Blaues Land region. Its idyllic scenery has been a source of inspiration for famous artists, such as Kandinsky. Guided walks enable visitors to discover the Murnauer Moos nature conservation area, the most extensive Alpine foothill moor in central Europe. You can also experience nature on a series of circular trails and cycle paths against the backdrop of the Alps. A walk through the wild, romantic Höllental (hell valley) gorge or the impressive Partnach gorge near the Zugspitze is an experience for all the senses. A dinghy or kayak tour on the river Loisach also lets you indulge your taste for adventure. Admire an amazing interplay of colours, for example, gentian flowers in the hillside meadows of the Karwendel Alpine region. The region surrounding the holiday towns of Mittenwald, Krün and Wallgau is a mecca for cyclists and walkers. With approx. 90km of trails, it could almost have been created specially for Nordic walking.
