Mount Kahler Asten is the real centre of the Upper Sauerland and the best-known mountain in north-west Germany. The church is dedicated to St. James the Elder. In the Middle Ages, pilgrims travelling to the saint's grave in Santiago de Compostela in Spain on the "Heathland Route" between Leipzig and Cologne used to rest in Winterberg.St. George ski jump
This 22 metre high ski jump was built in 1959 at an altitude of 733 metres and has now been reopened following renovations.
