The town revolves around nature and sporting activities. Winterberg has created its own special atmosphere by combining its heritage with modern hospitality.
 
Mount Kahler Asten
Mount Kahler Asten is the real centre of the Upper Sauerland and the best-known mountain in north-west Germany. It is only 5 kilometres outside Winterberg and visitors are attracted to its extensive walking trails, remarkable upland heaths, the new heathland nature trail and small nature museum. The views from the lookout platform over the Sauerland and Wittgenstein regions are glorious.
 
St. James' Church
The church is dedicated to St. James the Elder. In the Middle Ages, pilgrims travelling to the saint's grave in Santiago de Compostela in Spain on the "Heathland Route" between Leipzig and Cologne used to rest in Winterberg.
 
St. George ski jump
This 22 metre high ski jump was built in 1959 at an altitude of 733 metres and has now been reopened following renovations.
