Nature & greenery

The densely-wooded upland scenery of the Weserbergland hills provides plenty of opportunities to get close to nature on wonderful hikes and excursions. In the town itself, Werder park, the public gardens and municipal forest are great places for relaxation and recreation.

Werder island
Werder island, a small island in the Weser river accessible via a bridge, is located in the western part of the old town. The island's attractive landscaped gardens, beer garden and café provide plenty space for relaxation and recreation. There are also special play areas for children.

Public gardens
The popular public gardens are located in the eastern part of the old town. This former parade ground is now a beautiful municipal park, with water displays several times a day from April to October which are popular with visitors. Other attractions include works of art placed in various locations around the park as well as the relief of the Pied Pier at the southern entrance.

Municipal forest
Hamlyn has a 1,300 hectare municipal forest with several hiking trails for nature lovers. The "Pied Piper Path" is an especially charming route covering a total of 78 kilometres in three stages and providing lots of wonderful opportunities to get close to nature.
