Places of interest

Altmarkt square is a pretty ensemble of baroque town houses und neo-classical gabled houses from the 18th and 19th century. The town hall stood on this once important centre of commerce until 1945. The Löwenapotheke (Lion's Pharmacy) at no. 24 was founded in 1586 and is now a museum featuring historical pharmaceutical premises along with fully-furnished apothecary workshops, a historical pharmaceutical collection, a herb and poison chamber, and a Galenic laboratory.
A late-Gothic, triple-naved brick construction dating from the 14th century, this is the largest church in Lower Lusatia. Inside, visitors can admire the stellar-vaulted roof, pulpit and high altar with its magnificent alabaster carving from 1664. The 55 metre high church tower offers marvellous views of Cottbus.
Built in 1770-72, the palace stands at the centre of Branitz Park. It houses the Prince Pückler Museum with its historical living quarters and an exhibition on the life and work of Prince Pückler as well as the Cottbus Collection featuring paintings by Carl Blechen. The lovingly restored rooms are a reflection of the unusual life led by Prince Pückler. The palace's other remarkable attractions include the original Oriental Rooms.
