Nature & greenery

The Spree Forest has an amazing wealth of river scenery and a 970-km network of waterways. Explore the beautiful countryside on a traditional punting trip through the unspoilt forests with their rich flora and fauna and a number of thatched farmhouses. The undulating hills of Lower Lusatia are also particularly charming.

Spree Forest Biosphere Reserve
Brandenburg's Spree Forest Biosphere Reserve is unique in central Europe, a UNESCO-protected conservation area whose landscape was formed 20,000 years ago following the last ice age. Island farmsteads linked together by watercourses large and small are a characteristic feature of this region known as the "Venice" of Brandenburg. You can take a trip around this watery labyrinth in a traditional wooden punt, starting out from one of the many quiet villages where customs and handicrafts from days gone by are still practised.

Lusatian lakes
The undulating hills, lakes, rivers and patches of moorland in Lower Lusatia and the Elbe-Elster Land region have a charm of their own. In many places disused mining sites have been transformed into recreation areas with lakes. This is also one of Germany's sunniest regions.

Rose Garden, Forst
This 15-hectare historical park laid out in the style of an English landscape garden is largely unspoilt and lined with wild roses. With its artistic sculptures, pergola-lined squares and romantic fountains, the park is a unique blend of horticulture, landscape architecture and botanical diversity. Visitors can admire almost 500 different varieties of rose on around ten thousand rose bushes.
