Places of interest

Of special historical importance is the baroque palace which was constructed at the beginning of the 18th century as the residence of the Dukes of Zweibrücken. This magnificent palace is the largest secular building in the Palatinate region and is currently the seat of the Regional Appeal Court.
The evangelical hall church was constructed in late-Gothic style in around 1500, during the reign of Duke Alexander, and was later named after him. It is the oldest church in Zweibrücken and houses valuable memorial tombs as well as paintings by local artists.
In 1944, whilst looking for suitable air-raid shelters, residents stumbled across the old entrance to the Himmelsberg cellar and couldn't believe their eyes - they had found a huge, underground cellar dug out of sandstone whose origin and purpose were hitherto completely unknown. The cellar was turned into an air-raid shelter and this is where the town's most important services were set up.
