Nature & greenery

The history of Zweibrücken's famous landmark began in 1912 with the decision to create an open air rose display. Today Europe's Rose Garden is a lush oasis in the middle of town with over 60,000 roses and over 2,000 different varieties. During the summer months, many cultural events take place in these delightful surroundings amongst the flowers, ponds and pavilions.
The Pheasantry covers an area of over 10 hectares and is the largest contiguous wooded area in Zweibrücken. Marked trails run for several kilometres through the whole forest. You can get there by following the pretty rose path from Europe's Rose Garden. Spend some time enjoying the wonderful atmosphere - the scent of the forest, rustling leaves and chirping birds. A popular destination in the park is the Wild Rose Garden in the grounds of a former summer residence.
The Palatinate Forest Nature Reserve is the largest contiguous wooded area in Germany. The region's beautiful scenery is mainly characterised by its huge expanses of forest but also by its low mountain ranges. It also boasts a wine-growing area which spreads out along the German Wine Route like a sea of vines. This part of the country - described since early times as a "Garden of Eden" - is blessed with some of the best wines in the whole of Europe.
