Nature & greenery

In the Elm Lappwald nature reserve south of Braunschweig you can find nature at its best. There are well-marked trails for walkers and cyclists, shelters, barbecue areas and many places of interest. Each season in the nature reserve has its own special charm - the delicate green of the forest in springtime, the play of light and shadows under the tall trees in the summer months, the red and golden leaves which dance in the wind in autumn and the sparkling snow and deep silence of winter.
Noah's Ark Zoo in Braunschweig takes its visitors on an expedition through the world of exotic animals. Young and old will marvel at around 350 animals from over 60 different species such as cheetahs, Siberian tigers and short-clawed otters. When the weather is good you can also go on a pleasant walk through the well-tended park next to the zoo.
The idyllic Allersee lake between Wolfsburg and Vorsfelde attracts lots of visitors throughout the year. In the summer it's not only popular with swimmers but water sports enthusiasts too. There is also a well-maintained path around the lake for walking, cycling and inline skating. The 850 metre long sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing and building sand castles.
