Museums

Here in Friedrichstadt, history and tradition are cherished and protected. The Alte Münze museum preserves the history of the period when the town was first established. Visitors to the carpentry museum can learn lots about the history of the trade. And it's not all theory: you can also see traditional tools and machines in use.

Alte Münze museum
This is a museum which tells the story of the town's beginnings and its first inhabitants. The various faith communities that lived in Friedrichstadt are portrayed here. Housed in a 17th century warehouse, the museum also provides an overview of everyday life in Friedrichstadt. The people of Friedrichstadt believed that they would be granted the right to mint coins, which is why they named this building the 'Münze' or 'mint'.

Carpentry museum
Every summer, the carpentry museum in Friedrichstadt opens its doors to the public. The workshop was bequeathed by the master carpenter Jacob Hansen, and dates from 1876. It was adopted by a furniture restorer and continues to operate. Visitors can see and hear about the traditional tools and machines still in use.
