Places of interest

Schaufenster Fischereihafen, the fishing port tourist centre, is the perfect place to stroll, explore, and enjoy great food. This is a world of discovery on the theme of oceans and their inhabitants. The former fish packing warehouse, which has now been lovingly restored, boasts shops, a salt water aquarium, stage shows and a variety of bars and fish restaurants.
The visitors' centre, sponsored by Lloyd Werft, provides a first-hand view of one of Europe's most modern and successful ports, complete with container terminal, car terminal, cruise liner terminal and of course Lloyd Werft shipbuilders. There are daily tours, and the activity on the wharf can be easily observed from the visitor centre's viewing platform, which is almost 19m high.
This lighthouse is a famous Bremerhaven landmark, as well as being the oldest working lighthouse on the North Sea coast mainland. The Simon Loschen lighthouse was named after the man who built it in 1853. It stands by the lock at the entrance to the new harbour where the big paddle steamers use to come and go, entering and leaving the port to take the post between New York and Bremerhaven.
