Places of interest

With its spire of 161.53 metres, Ulm Minster is the town's dominating landmark. It is the tallest church spire in the world. The observation platform offers stunning panoramic views of Ulm and the surrounding area. The 15th-century choir stalls inside the minster are also worthy of note.
In 1841 the German federal administration took the decision to extend Ulm into a federal fortress, of which Wilhelmsburg Castle on Michelsberg hill is the largest edifice. The castle was guarded by three five-storey watchtowers and a moat and served as a final point of retreat. Because of its vast size (over 24,000m²), it provided emergency accommodation for the people of Ulm after the second world war.
A walk through the picturesque old quarter is like stepping back in time and many of its buildings date right back to the end of the 17th century. Close by is the historical armoury with its impressive Renaissance portal and intriguing Einstein fountain on the forecourt.
