Museums
Ulm's many museums offer a range of insights into the history of mankind. Ulm Museum takes visitors through the history of the town and the surrounding region, the Breadmaking Museum focuses on the fascinating theme of breadmaking and the Danube German Central Museum documents the history of Danube German emigration. Ulm Museum
Ulm Municipal Museum was founded in 1924 and is near the present-day town hall. It has various collections retracing the prehistory and early history of the Ulm region. Among its highlights is the Löwenmensch (lion man), the oldest human/animal sculpture in the world (approx. 30,000 years old). The museum's special exhibitions of traditional and modern art also enjoy wide popularity. Breadmaking Museum
The Breadmaking Museum, founded in 1955 as the German Bread Museum, illustrates the history of bread and breadmaking. Its entrepreneurial founder, Dr. Willy Eiselen, envisaged the museum as a record of the significance of bread in people's lives. Today the collection includes over 14,000 objects and works of art, of which 1,300 are on permanent display. There is also a specialist library with around 4,000 volumes and an archive on the theme of bread. Danube German Central Museum
The Danube German Central Museum (1,500m² of exhibition space) documents the emigration history of Danube Germans to south-east Europe. The permanent exhibition "Räume, Zeit und Menschen" (Space - Time - Man) has 26 sections reflecting the life of the German minority in ethnically diverse south-east Europe.
