Places of interest

There are still some remnants of the old town wall around this square. At its southern end is the round Ice Tower, used as the town's ice cellar during the 19th century. At its northern end is the Armoury Tower, built in 1530, the inner town wall's only remaining fortified tower.
The Church of St. Mary is considered one of Swabia's most beautiful and most significant Gothic buildings. Built between 1247 and 1343, it has survived both earthquakes and town fires. The church is one of Reutlingen's most prominent landmarks. It stands at the heart of the historical town centre with a golden angel gracing its west tower. The Church of St. Mary is a German national cultural monument.
To the east of the old quarter is Mount Achalm, which rises to over 700 metres and is topped by the ruins of an old castle. Wine is still grown on its slopes in the time-honoured way. Mount Achalm offers spectacular panoramic views of Reutlingen and the Swabian Alb. It is a popular excursion destination conveniently close to the town.
