Each July the promenade in Überlingen becomes a "festival mile" for the traditional Promenade Festival. Live bands create a festival atmosphere and provide musical entertainment with much singing and dancing. The huge firework display with its sparkling cascades and multicolour explosions bathe the lake and shore in colourful light. People come from miles around to visit the traditional art market which is also part of the Promenade Festival. The Seehase Festival came into being after the Second World War to give children something to enjoy during the time of reconstruction. Since then the Seehase Festival has continually developed and now offers a diverse program of cultural events and entertainment. Each July this festival delights young and old when the "Seehase" (literally, "lake rabbit") gives out goody bags of sweets to the children.
