Places of interest

The climatic and hydrotherapy health resort of Oberstdorf has both a village and a cosmopolitan feel and sport features here just as strongly as health treatments. There are sporting activities available for every taste and ability. The ski jump stadium and the national ice skating centre are some of the village's most popular attractions. Another special experience in the mountains around Oberstdorf is a visit to Germany's largest alpine dairy farm.

Oberstdorf Erdinger Arena in the Allgäu
The five ski jumps in the arena at the foot of the Schattenberg mountain are visible from a distance. The Four Hills Tournament takes place each year on the highest jump which is 125 metres high. The arena was first built in 1925 and was enlarged in 1972. The ski-jumping stadium also has another four dry-ski slopes which are 100 metres, 60 metres, 30 metres and 19 metres high. The partly floodlit ski jumping competitions that take place on the dry-ski slopes in the summer are also a big tourist attraction and draw huge crowds.

Ice skating centre
The national ice skating centre has three ice rinks and one indoor climbing wall all under one roof. If you want to see ice skating stars in action, you don't have far to look. This is where you can meet national and international stars of the ice skating world on every day of the week. Norbert Schramm, the former world silver medallist figure skater, laid the groundwork for his later success here at the Oberstdorf ice rink. The great success of so many international figure skaters has led to this ice skating centre at the foot of the Nebelhorn mountain being a draw for sportspeople and visitors alike.

Schlappold alpine pasture
Germany's largest alpine dairy farm is located on the country's most beautiful "flower mountain", the Fellhorn, in the nature conservation area of the Allgäu High Alps. For 300 years it has been managed as a cooperative and is farmed from the beginning of June until mid-October. The farm pasture lies in the Stillachtal valley south of Oberstdorf. From dawn until dusk animals graze in a 200 hectare area of open countryside. Around 1,000 litres of milk are processed daily, working to age-old recipes. Visitors to the farm can enjoy a hearty snack, fresh milk, ham, cooked meats and Kaminwurz smoked sausage.
