Nature & greenery

Situated in the heart of the Weserbergland hills, Bad Pyrmont is one of the most prestigious and well-known of Germany's health resorts. With its mineral springs, first-rate therapy facilities and attractive wellness packages, it has become a fashionable spa. Visitors can enjoy a variety of natural attractions including spring gas therapy at the Dunsthöhle (steam cave) or a tour of the springs on Brunnenplatz square. Alternatively, you can see the countryside at its best in the nearby high ropes course.

The "Dunsthöhle" - a natural phenomenon
The Dunsthöhle steam cave is situated on a disused Bunter sandstone quarry site. When the quarry workers reached a certain depth they noticed a vapour that rendered them unconscious. Dr. Johann Philipp Seip, who took up the role of physician at the wells of Pyrmont in 1712, investigated the matter and came to the conclusion that it was sulphurous vapour (carbon dioxide had not been discovered at that time). With the approval of Prince Friedrich-Anton Ulrich zu Waldeck und Pyrmont, he had a dry sauna built on the site for spa visitors. Very soon, people were reporting that they had noticed an improvement in a number of conditions such as growths on the feet, painful gout and stiffness of the joints. Today, the spa offers natural spring gas therapy using the beneficial CO2 gas.

High Ropes Course in Detmold
The high ropes course in Detmold is a great place to exercise and develop your climbing skills. The course has a number of challenging exercises for visitors to try, which must be completed at up to 12 metres off the ground. There is also a team adventure course offering thrills for those who prefer to put their courage and creativity to the test a little closer to the ground. Participant safety is ensured at all times through the use of safety equipment (ropes, helmets, belts) and the support of specially trained Interak team guides.

Brunnenplatz Square
Brunnenplatz square stands at the centre of Bad Pyrmont, where the spa quite literally sprang up. However, the springs here have been bubbling up since long before Bad Pyrmont and the square even existed. In 1863, when work was carried out on the Hyllige Born and Brodelbrunnen springs, several well-preserved uprooted trees were discovered in the marshy soil about four metres below the surface. Around 320 sacrificial objects were found in the roots of a linden tree, including Teutonic clasps, buckles, brooches, a bronze ladle, Roman coins and other objects. The Hyllige Born is the oldest of Bad Pyrmont's medicinal springs.
