Nature & greenery

The Taunus region always "springs" to mind when it comes to rest and relaxation. Its beneficial natural springs boost energy levels and instil a sense of wellbeing, while an abundance of paths, ideal for walking, skating and cycling, are the best way to explore the natural scenery. Try a "health walk" through the unspoilt landscapes of the Upper Taunus and experience the holistic therapeutic effects of the fresh, invigorating air, or head to the Georg von Opel country park zoo, an extra-special treat that the whole family can enjoy. You can also discover "Stöffche", as cider is affectionately known here, on a route that runs along the River Main, taking in orchards and quaint cider houses.

Upper Taunus climatic health resort
The Upper Taunus climatic health resort is situated to the north of Königstein, Falkenstein and Schmitten. Simply breathing in the fresh air in this beneficial climate has a therapeutic effect. Wooded slopes give way to spectacular scenic views in what is one of the finest landscapes in the Taunus region. The area enjoys a particularly favourable climate, which forms the basis for an unparalleled health experience. Enjoy the health-giving benefits of the region's climate along one of the 30 paths that stretch a total distance of over 180 kilometres.

Opel Zoo
At Opel Zoo, visitors are given a warm welcome by elephants, hippos, giraffes and camels. This 250,000m² country park zoo is home to more than 200 species threatened with extinction, providing them with living spaces that suit their individual requirements. Scenic nature and geological trails take visitors on a journey across five continents, while the park's secluded spots are perfect for sitting back and just listening to the noise of the animals. There are also numerous baby animals, whose inquisitive nature and first clumsy steps captivate young and old alike.

Hessian Cider Route
Covering a distance of around 40 kilometres the picturesque Hessian Cider Route from Frankfurt to Hanau meanders alongside the Main River through idyllic landscapes blessed with fascinating sights, neatly kept villages and olde worlde watering holes. Cider's history can be traced back to as early as around 420BC. The invention of the beverage is attributed to King Charlemagne and he was also the one who arranged for orchards to be planted, expressly for the purpose of making the drink! In late summer, when the apples are picked from the orchards that line the route, some innkeepers even press their own ciders.
