Suggested excursions

A tour of the German Wine Route is always a symphony for the senses, a pleasure garden of vines and a taste of joie de vivre. The Kurpfalz Park in Wachenheim is a fascinating experience for both children and grown ups. The town of Worms is full of associations with the legendary Nibelungs.

German Wine Route
The German Wine Route is one of the most famous scenic routes. 85 kilometres long, it passes through Germany's second largest wine-producing area, where people really live life to the full. In winter, when prolonged spells of bad weather elsewhere in Germany are still depressing people's spirits, the countryside along the Wine Route is being transformed as thousands of almond trees come into blossom. Here the climate is mild, the scenery reminiscent of Tuscany and the people warm and friendly too. The summer sun shines down on the gentle wooded hills planted with vines, while figs, kiwis and lemons also thrive.

Kurpfalz Park, Wachenheim
Kurpfalz Park in Wachenheim is an adventure park which appeals to all ages. Whole families have fun finding their way around the 1,200m² maze and the kids can let off steam on the climbing frames and slides in the adventure playground, play castle and pirates' lair and then play hide and seek in a host of different play areas. When it's time to catch your breath, the puppet theatre puts on plays for all the family to enjoy but if you want more thrills and spills there is a 40 metre long free-fall slide with a 60 per cent gradient. The natural world can also be thrilling, so don't miss the chance to see flying displays with birds of prey in the wildlife and nature park on the same site.

Worms and its role in history
Worms is closely associated with the saga of the Nibelungs, but it also has a great deal more to offer. It has historical significance in connection with the great reformer Martin Luther who spoke in defence of his writings here before the Emperor at the Diet of Worms in 1521. The town was famous as the location for imperial diets or assemblies, especially the one held in 1495 to reform the Holy Roman Empire. Worms' great historical legacy is still important today, and incidentally it's one of the oldest towns in Germany.
