You certainly won't get bored at Lake Edersee as there is much to discover in and around this watersports paradise. Regattas are held almost every weekend between May and August. A sightseeing tour on the lake is a definite must. You can learn more about Saint Boniface near Edertal-Wellen where he is said to have felled "Donareiche", Thor's oak tree. The exquisite altar in Netze village church, built around 1370, is also worth seeing.
This is a fascinating journey of discovery through the past and present, following the history of the House of Orange, one of the oldest and most renowned dynasties in Europe. This royal route passes through Dutch and German towns which have a historical connection with the House of Orange-Nassau. Princess Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont, the later Queen of the Netherlands, was born in the palace in Bad Arolsen in 1858.
It's not only the town of Bad Arolsen itself but also the surrounding villages that are worth a visit. Some of them are over 700 years old, and they offer a mix of the romantic and the historical, particularly the older parts of Landau and Mengeringhausen. As well as the Wasserkunst pumping works in Landau you can also visit other local attractions such as Volkhardinghausen Abbey and the Toy Museum in Massenhausen.
