No wonder that a whole panoply of poets and philosophers, artists and inventors have very special connections with the Swabian Alb mountains (Einstein, Hesse, Hölderlin, Kepler, Bloch and Liszt, to name just a few). Maybe it is the combination of unspoilt countryside and the stimulating variety of towns that is a source of inspiration - even nowadays. At the many state-of-the-art spas and health resorts, savour the restorative powers of the Swabian Alb, just as the Romans used to. And when you're feeling good all over and your body and soul are in harmony, you can't help but smile. Relax, say goodbye to your stress and take things at your own pace on an "ŕ la carte" cycling tour through the Swabian Alb.

Alternatively, you can visit the Danube gorge in the Upper Danube nature reserve. After disappearing completely underground for a while near Tuttlingen, the Danube re-emerges in a magnificent show of force shortly afterwards in a gorge carved through the rocky precipices of the Swabian Alb - a breathtaking sight at any time of year. Not far from this natural spectacle, there are also a number of interesting cultural attractions to visit including Beuron Abbey, Sigmaringen Castle and the Celtic site at Heuneburg near Herbertingen. Along the way, you simply must sample some Swabian specialities, including everything that can possibly be produced from the grape: grape juice, most, wine, sekt and grape schnapps. There's also plenty for music fans to learn at the Harmonica Museum in Trossingen - famous for its Hohner instruments. As you can see, there are lots of good reasons to visit this route and explore the treasures it holds.
