Places of interest

The highest vantage point in north-western Germany can be reached using the Ettelsberg chairlift or on foot via one of the many marked trails around Willingen. The views over the Upper Sauerland and the Waldecker Land region can be enjoyed at any time of the year.
The world's largest ski jump is located at the base of the Rothaargebirge hills. This is where the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup takes place every winter in front of tens of thousands of spectators. Mühlenkopf ski jump can be visited the whole year round, not just during the ski jumping season, and in the summer it is the venue for many open-air concerts.
In 1971 this 19th century slate mine ceased production and was then opened to the public. The huge mining chamber never ceases to amaze visitors. Expert guided tours make a visit to the mine an unforgettable experience, but remember to bring a warm jacket!
