Themed guided tours are a fascinating way to bring history to life in Schwetzingen, shedding light on the opulence of the 18th century under Carl Theodor, the 19th century that marked the beginning of the industrial revolution as well as crimes committed down the ages that provoked outrage in the town. Every year, the Schwetzingen-based theatre company "Theater am Puls" stages two seasons of plays in the "Alte Wollfabrik" playhouse. Every five years Schwetzingen becomes an exhibition space for minor artists. Sculptures and works of art, that quite literally "get in your way" are placed all around the town, and after this somewhat unusual exhibition finishes, one of the sculptures is chosen to remain as part of the townscape, changing the appearance of Schwetzingen's streets more and more as time goes by.
